Can you get braces which are more discreet?

braces-stoke-on-trent

When people think of braces, the image which perhaps comes to mind initially is that of the more traditional metal braces Stoke-on-Trent which utilise brackets and wires. These sorts of fixtures have served our society well for a number of decades, straightening teeth, correcting bite problems and improving overall oral health as a result of this. However, as times change and equipment has improved through technology, the options for teeth straightening have diversified too.

Alongside this, it seems our culture is growing more aware of looks and aesthetics and we are finding that more patients are exploring orthodontic options which are discreet as well as effective. When it comes to braces Stoke-on-Trent in particular there are several options which we offer at Ashlow Orthodontics which might meet both your teeth straightening needs and your aesthetic goals.

Before we explore the different options available to our current patients, we must first of all note that seeking a consultation from our dental practitioner is integral to making a decision about treatment going forwards. Only an appropriately qualified dentist can give you sound advice about what the most suitable options could be for your needs and goals. Clear braces

When we talk about clear braces Stoke-on-Trent here at Ashlow Orthodontics we are referring to another form of brace which utilises brackets and wires. However, the difference between these and their more traditional relatives is the material which the brackets are created out of. Instead of using metal brackets, clear braces use brackets which are either translucent or those which are tooth coloured.

Because the brackets of clear braces  blend with the teeth behind them, the braces are less visible to those around you. This, therefore, can allow you to undergo your orthodontic treatment while drawing less attention than you may have imagined.

Lingual braces

Similarly to the clear brace model, lingual braces are a fixture which utilise the bracket and wires mechanism of movement. Simply put, it is still brackets and wires which would move your teeth. However, the difference between lingual braces and other braces you may be aware of is that the brackets and wires used are placed on the back surface of your teeth rather than the front surface. Therefore, it is the fact that these fixtures are hidden behind the teeth which makes them less noticeable to your friends, family or colleagues.

Invisalign

Invisalign provides a system of clear braces called aligners which are entirely different to the other aforementioned options. The aligners are part of a series which all differ slightly from one another. Each aligner is worn for a few weeks and then replaced with the next in the set until the treatment course has been completed. In this system, it is the transparency of the aligners (which are made from a clear plastic called SmartTrack) which provides patients with the discretion they are looking for.
